Yet another news story has broken about a high-profile firm being hacked by cyber criminals.
Deloitte, one of the 4 major accountancy firms in the world, had their email systems breached and private information was impacted.
It looks like the reason was as simple as an Administrator password being hacked giving an “access all areas” approach for the hackers.
You can imagine the types of security systems someone like Deloitte has invested in only to still be breached. However, just because they are the size they are (a record £27.3bn revenue last year) and the volume of emails or data breached is considerable, it doesn’t mean that small to medium businesses won’t suffer in the same way if security considerations are ignored. Granted the volumes may be lower but the severity is still the same.
Cyber-attacks are becoming more and more prolific in SME’s and the educational sector and unless it’s taken seriously, data loss can occur and ransoms will be demanded to unlock information.
